Connect Shopify
Write-back updates your Shopify product and variant prices directly, through the MarginTide app listed on the Shopify App Store.
What you need
- A Shopify store owner, or a staff account allowed to install apps on the store.
- The MarginTide Companion subscription ($4.99/mo, 14-day free trial) — this is what pays for the Shopify write-back connector itself, separate from your MarginTide research plan.
- Your MarginTide workspace currency set to match your Shopify store's currency. If they don't match, the connection is refused rather than writing prices in the wrong currency.
Install
- Find "MarginTide" on the Shopify App Store and click Install, or install directly from your Shopify admin's Settings → Apps and sales channels → Shopify App Store.
- Approve the app's requested access in Shopify.
- Shopify hands you a one-time claim link, good for 15 minutes.
Claim the install
- Open the claim link. It takes you to MarginTide's Settings, signed in as yourself.
- The claim page shows which Shopify store and account installed the app, so you can confirm you recognize it before continuing.
- Confirm the claim as an admin or owner of the workspace you want connected. MarginTide checks the store's currency against your workspace currency and only completes the connection when they match.
- If the link expired before you claimed it, reopen the app from your Shopify admin — that issues a fresh 15-minute link.
Claiming is admin/owner-only, and each claim link works once. If you see a store or account you don't recognize, don't confirm the claim — the install stays unclaimed until someone who does recognize it claims it, or an admin uninstalls the app in Shopify.
Companion + your MarginTide plan
Every workspace connected through the Shopify App Store pays the MarginTide Companion plan ($4.99/mo after a 14-day free trial) — that's what licenses the Shopify write-back connector. Your MarginTide research tier (Basic, Pro, Max, or Enterprise) is billed separately and controls how much pricing research MarginTide runs; connecting an App Store store never changes which tier you're on.
MarginTide's Pro and Max research tiers are also available as Shopify-billed plans if you'd rather manage everything from one Shopify invoice. To see or change either subscription, open your Shopify admin's Settings → Apps and sales channels → MarginTide → Manage, which takes you to Shopify's plan-selection page for the app. Changes you make there take effect on your MarginTide workspace within a few minutes.
Reconnecting
Shopify write-back relies on a token that MarginTide refreshes automatically in the background. If a refresh ever fails — for example, because the store revoked access outside of Shopify's normal flow — the connection is marked unhealthy and write-back pauses until you reconnect:
- Open Settings → Integrations and check the Shopify connection's status.
- If it shows unhealthy, reopen the MarginTide app from your Shopify admin and reapprove access — this issues a fresh token and clears the unhealthy state.
- If reopening doesn't clear it, uninstall and reinstall the app in Shopify to reconnect from scratch.
Uninstall and data deletion
Uninstalling the app in Shopify disconnects write-back immediately: MarginTide stops updating prices for that store, every workspace linked to it is disconnected and notified, and the stored connection token is deleted. Shopify's standard data-request and redaction requests (including a shop's own redaction request 48 hours after uninstall) are handled automatically — no separate deletion step is needed on your end.
Disconnecting from MarginTide's Settings, instead of uninstalling in Shopify, stops write-back from that workspace but leaves the app installed in Shopify — reopening it from Shopify shows "Not connected" until you reinstall.
