Send alerts to Slack

Connect Slack once and every alert that matters lands in a channel your team already watches, instead of an inbox nobody checks.

Before you start

  • You need admin or owner access on your MarginTide workspace — only an admin or owner can connect, manage, or disconnect Slack.
  • You need permission to install apps in your Slack workspace, or an admin there who can approve the install — Slack requires workspace-level authorization for any new app.

Connect

  1. Open Settings → Integrations and select Slack.
  2. Select Add to Slack.
  3. Slack's consent screen lists, in plain language, what MarginTide is asking to do: send messages, post to public channels it hasn't joined yet, see the names of public and private channels (so you can pick one), see workspace member names, and match your MarginTide account to a Slack account by email. Nothing else. Approve to continue.
  4. You land back on MarginTide's Settings page with Slack connected — no bot token to copy by hand.

Slack is included on every plan — connecting it costs nothing extra.

Choose a channel

  • Public channels post right away — MarginTide doesn't need an invite first.
  • Private channels need an invite: run /invite @MarginTide by Agnotiq in that channel before picking it, or alerts won't reach it.
  • The channel picker shows the first 500 channels in your workspace. If yours isn't in the list, type its name to search — MarginTide filters as you type.

What you receive

  • Each alert is a card: the product, the price move (old price → new price), which competitor moved, and a link straight back to the recommendation in Action Center.
  • On Settings → Notifications, turn on the triggers you want in Slack — price and margin moves, run completions, new competitors, cost changes, savings opportunities, renewal reminders, depending on your workspace. Each can go to email, Slack, or both.
  • Immediate, daily, or weekly digest timing is set separately from your email cadence.

Manage

  • Change channel — reopen Settings → Integrations → Slack and pick a different one; takes effect on the next alert.
  • Disconnect from MarginTide — use Disconnect Slack in Settings. This stops alerts and removes the connection but leaves the app installed in Slack.
  • Uninstall from Slack — remove the app from your Slack workspace's app directory. MarginTide is notified: we revoke the connection and stop sending, with nothing left for you to clean up on our side.

Data & permissions

  • What we store: your Slack team ID, the channel ID you choose, and an encrypted bot token.
  • What we never read: the contents of your channels or direct messages. MarginTide only posts alerts — it never reads what your team writes in Slack.

Troubleshooting

  • Install error on screen — the error MarginTide shows names the specific problem (cancelled install, expired link, signed out mid-install, and so on); follow it and try connecting again.
  • "Channel not found" — usually means the bot hasn't been invited to a private channel yet. Invite it with /invite @MarginTide by Agnotiq and try again.
  • Alerts arriving late — if Slack is rate-limiting the workspace, MarginTide retries automatically. No action needed on your end.
